Open to JHU Libraries Staff ONLY. Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming the information landscape. How can libraries not only adapt but also lead in this new era? This training session explores the evolving role of libraries and library professionals amidst the rise of AI. Drawing insights from current discussions on automation and human agency, we will examine the historical context of technological shifts in libraries, discuss the practical and ethical considerations of integrating AI tools into our work, and emphasize the vital importance of human skills, ethical frameworks, and virtuous practices. This training session was inspired by the presentation of Dr. Paulus at the 2024 ai4Libraries conference. This course builds upon his notion of the meaning of libraries, and is specifically tailored for JHU Library staff. This session will encourage discussion on how we can proactively shape the future of our services, instructions and support for the Hopkins community in the age of AI, ensuring our libraries remain essential hubs for ethically grounded information access and knowledge creation.
