Open to JHU Libraries Staff ONLY. As generative AI tools become increasingly embedded in research, teaching, and creative workflows, questions around copyright and intellectual property are rising to the forefront. This introductory workshop will provide participants with a foundational understanding of how U.S. copyright law applies to AI-generated content, how copyrighted materials are used in AI training, and what this means for libraries, educators, and researchers.

Participants will explore key concepts such as authorship, fair use, and derivative works in the context of AI, while also considering institutional policy implications and risk mitigation strategies. The session will include practical examples, current legal debates, and opportunities for discussion.

Whether you're advising faculty, curating collections, or using AI tools in your own work, this workshop will help you engage more confidently with the legal and ethical considerations shaping the future of information.
