Come out to Keystone Korner to hear some of Ethel Ennis' signature songs brought to life by Charanee Wade, Cyrus Chestnut, Brinae Ari, the Peabody Jazz Ensemble, and the Baltimore School for the Arts Jazz Ensemble
The late Ethel Ennis was Baltimore’s own “First Lady of Jazz,” a singer with a luminous voice and the creator of an inspiring career based in her hometown. This multigenerational birthday celebration brings to life some of Ethel Ennis' signature songs and extends her legacy, with performances by acclaimed vocalist Charenée Wade and the Peabody Jazz Ensemble, and special guests Baltimore-native & legendary pianist Cyrus Chestnut, vocalist & dancer Brinae Ali, and the Baltimore School for the Arts Jazz Ensemble. The evening will also present Earl Arnett’s forthcoming memoir, A Jazz Romance, about his life with Ethel for over 50 years.
The event is presented in conjunction with the must-see exhibition, Ethel’s Place: Celebrating Ethel Ennis, Baltimore’s First Lady of Jazz, on view through March 31, 2024 at the George Peabody Library.
The Ethel Ennis Birthday Bash and its reduced admission fees are made possible by generous support from Robbye and Kevin Apperson. Proceeds will benefit the Ethel Ennis and Earl Arnett Collection.
